WAFAA FROM GAZA
Logline
The journey of a girl who started singing out her window in Gaza out of despair, to a woman living in Germany, scared to sing out of fear of censorship and more.
Director's Note
A month after October 7th, Wafaa performed at a gig organized for Gaza in Berlin. And everyone in the room left forever changed. The indescribable experience that millions of Palestinians feel and have felt for over a century was now felt amongst everyone. And through the silence they provoked, a sense of unity and hope emerged in the crowd.
This film was born from a personal concern of the lack of empathy within humanity. It’s about understanding, through the experience of exiled Palestinians and their musical expression, what it takes for humans nowadays to empathize with one another. To make us feel, if not with words, then with Art, the suffering of a people, and see if music in particular can travel through the walls that separate a culture from another.
